Muhereza wins 1st Singleton Match Play Championship

Allan Muhereza started the New Year with a bang claiming the East Africa Breweries sponsored Singleton Match Play tournament at the par 71 Entebbe golf course recently.

The handicap 6 player returned to the club house with a perfect score of 69 nett beating a field of 150 players and at the same time winning a trip to Kabalega National Game Park.

Canadian Greg Patterson playing off handicap 13 claimed the top prize in the men’s Group B with 65 nett.

The Singleton Match play will be played over 5 rounds with the Grand Finale held on 27 May with the best two golfers winning a full paid trip to go watch the prestigious British Open this year in Scotland.

Handicap 24 player Winston Agaba was Group C winner with 66 nett with Kabale Golf Club’s Sheila Kesiime winning the Ladies Group A with 75 nett.

Jackie Kamunyu was Group B winner with 77 nett on count back.  The seniors category was taken by Fred Kasumba, with 75 nett while Mehta Golf Club’s Walter Debbo and Uganda Golf Club’s Gloria Mbaguta.

The former Uganda Golf Union president Kiryowa Kiwanuka, together with Mbaguta both won the nearest to the pin.
